I have used wikis as assessment tools in the past and am now looking at ways of using blogs in a similar way. Has anyone had any experience of uysing blogs in this way? First off: is there any reason why it shouldn't work?? I would welcome any comments etc on this Cheers Roddy

RE: Using Blogs as Assessment tools
By: ,
Dec 29 2007, 6:04 AM EST
My collegue at the Iceland University of Education has used Blogs for assessment for quite some time now. Very often they will be used as "Portfolios". For this purpose we have been experimenting with the system: elgg (http://www.elgg.org/) see student example: http://elgg.khi.is/carlferr/weblog/. For material and contactinfo for Salvor my Collegue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Salvor http://starfsfolk.khi.is/salvor/basics/portfolio.htm
Good luck with using Blogg as an assessment tool Hróbjartur

Hi! This is exactly what I am exploring as a support tool for users of our e-portfolio. I should love to find out more and share findings. I wish I was with you :-)

Thanks a lot for your comment! I enjoy reading about your passportfolio. I think I attended a presentation of passportfolio in Berlin last December? Or in Oxford e-portfolio conference last October?
all the best,

Hi Torhild, sorry it has taken some time for me to get back to you. It is quite likely that Passportfolio was mentioned at these conferences, since there has been national and international interest in its development. We have had Nottingham City Local Authority, and Nottingham University partners, who have used the Passportfolio in their presentations. Unfortunately, I do not have any information and what they said! Best regards, Gill

I was very impressed with what you had achieved in mobile learning. I have a simple question. At least I hope it is simple. If I wanted to start experimenting with mobile learning material tomorrow what would I be doing? Would I be making a navigable html/website (suited to viewing on pda) or would I be producing a flash file or something else entirely? Or could I do all of these?

RE: A simple question

Thanks for your question! I think the easiest way of getting started quickly is creating a low-bandwidth portal web site. Start with light design and non-complex layout elements which display well on a PDA. Then you can add more functionality and more complex objects, like e.g. a discussion forum or flash objects. For the latter, you will need to download the flash player which is not included in the mobile version of the Internet Explorer. Regarding communicative functionality, I actually did a trial project on a blogger.com-blog where I simplified the template in a way which suited the PDA well.
Good luck!

Hi, here in Nottinghamshire, we have developed our own e-portfolio to support young people in their progression from school into further learning and work. It is closely tied into the Personal Development Curriculum and our new 14-19 curriculum, just being introduced into schools in 07/08. Young people are facing a major shift in the way they will learn and it has massive implications for their guidance and support. If you want to learn more go to this link: http://www.cnxnotts.co.uk/partners/education/curriculum/passportfolio.html
(aplologies if it is not hyperlinked)

Hi Jón
I just listened to the interview with you. I’m very interested in the perspectives of community learning and I’m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow in the workshop. By chance I know about this conference that might interest you and others. Perhaps you already know all about it: “Learning with Games” Conference, 24th – 26th September 2007 in Sophia Antipolis, France. www.learningwithgames2007.org
