Web 2.0 Tools

Every week you can find new "cool" webs and web services which could be classified as Web 2.0 tools.
Wikipedia, Youtube, Facebook, Myspace are maybe the best known of examples. On this page we can name and introduce some web services we think are useful for people who work with adult learners. Here's an inspiring video about Web 2.0 by Mike Wensch, a professor of digital ethnographyc at Kansas State University.

Collaborative Writing

Wiki

Wikis - Like this web - are websites many people can use to edit and collaboratively develop a text. One of the nice functions of Wikis is that each version is saved, so it is very easy to monitor changes to the text, who changed it, when and even why! If one does not agree with the changes it ist very easy to revert to the older version or change it all together.

Wikipedia

Probably the best known Wiki is the Free online Encyclopedia: Wikipedia, where thousands of users log on each day to monitor, and develop pages on areas of interest or expertise.

Google Docs

Google offers its users a service to create, edit and save the most common documents computer users create (word processing documents, spread sheets and presentations) Users can invite others to edit the documents with them. Zoho

Zoho is a suite of free online productivity and collaboration tools. The applications are free for individuals and some have a subscription fee for organizations. The list of applications is long and includes word processor, spreadsheets, presentations, wikis, project management and web conferencing. Here are several video tutorials for Zoho products.

eSnips

This service allows you to upload and share documents of various types. It has plenty of widgets and social features. Take a tour of eSnips.

Backpack

You can use Backpack and it´s sister sites to keep track of your projects, invite coworkers or students to participate, edit and contribute. You can add any combination of notes, to-dos, files, photos, and dividers to a Backpack Page. Pages just take seconds to create. Share them or keep them private. Take a tour of Backpack.
Mit Backpack kann man Listen, Kalender, Dokumente online erstellen und anderen den Zugang zu bestimmten Dokumenten zu ermöglichen, z.B. Kalendereinträge, Aufgabenlisten und Dokumente.

MyNoteIT

This is a tool for sharing information and collaborating on school work. In an educational context, it's especially interesting that you can:
  • Create a bookmark list of the most helpful and useful notes you find on mynoteIT
  • Join or create class groups or school groups so you're never out of the loop.
  • View all your upcoming assignments on your calendar.
  • Add friends to your friends list to easily keep in touch with each other.
  • Easily keep track of all your grades in all your classes.

Micro blogging

Twitter

Twitteris a micro blog, a service for friends, family, and co–workers tocommunicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing? You sign up for freeand start posting updates. You connect to friends to subscribe to their updates. For educational purposes, teacher and students could form a network and post updates on how they're coming along on a particular project, post links to valuable resources etc. Here's a shortvideo intro to Twitter.

Pownce

Pownce is similar to Twitter. It's not equally popular, but offers some tools that Twitter doesn't have: On top of messaging, users can quickly and easily share links, files, or events with any or all of his/her contacts.

Hictu

Hictu is micro blogging with video. Set up your web cam, sign up for an account and start posting video reports. In an educational context this could be field trips, lab exercises, book reports etc.

Collaborative Brainstorming & Mapping

MindMeister

Mit MindMeister kan man online MindMaps erstellen, teilen und mit anderen bearbeiten. Eine Voraussetzung dafür ist bei Skype angemeldet zu sein. Dann ist es möglich übers Internet mit Kollegen gleichzeitig in Brainstorm modus kooperativ ein Mindmap zu erstellen.

Ermöglicht das gemeinsame Bearbeiten von Bildern, Text etc. Man kann sich als Gruppe ein Whiteboard erstellen, verschiedene Objekte (Text, Bilder...) einfügen, verknüpfen, darauf malen, Kommentare dazu abgeben.

Social Bookmarking

furl

Furl is a social bookmarking site that makes it easy to save, share, and explore favorite web pages. It has plenty of powerful tools for sorting and editing bookmarks. Here's a list of Furl features. See article in Norwegian on Furl.

del.icio.us

Mister Wong

Mister Wong is a relatively advanced tool for online bookmarking with social tools like groups. There are also plenty of widgets and even an iPhone app. Has versions in German, Spanish, French, Russian and Chinese in addition to English.

Youtube

By far the most popular tool for sharing videos. Bad signal to noise ratio, but very effective tool for uploading and/or embedding videos. Owned by Google.

TeacherTube

An online community for sharing instructional videos. This is a more educationally focused, safe venue for teachers, schools, and home learners. It is a site to provide anytime, anywhere professional development with teachers teaching teachers.

Google Video

Decent tool with sub sites for U.S., Australia, Canada, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, the U.K. and China. Doesn't receive quite so much attention after Google bought Youtube.

Das Vermischen von Inhaten (mashup)

Auf vielen Internetseiten sind Inhalte, die man mit anderen Inhalten vermischen kann um sie wertvoller zu machen. Zum Beispiel kann man Immobilien-Informationen mit geografischen zu vermischen. Damit z.B. auf einer Karte alle Immobilien in einem vom Benutzer eingegebenen geographischem Beriech zu sehen sind die bestimmen Vorgaben entsprechen.


Kommunikation

Es gibt viele verschiedene Programme, die man zur Online-Kommunikation mit anderen nutzen kann. Teilweise ermöglichen es diese Programme auch, Dateien untereinander auszutauschen.
