Facilitated Work Based Learning – methodology and examples

(Flemming K. Fink) University teachers play in FWBL an active role as facilitator of knowledge transfer and application, based on identified company needs. The learner plays an active role in the development of new company based competences. The methodology is combining experiences from Problem Based Learning and Work Based Learning. Examples from a project with 75 SME’s will be presented.

Abstract from session moderator:

Work in Engineering, Science and Medicine with focus on the workplace to meet the increasing need for continuing education with scarce resources, time, money etc. The idea is to combine Work Based Learning with the experience of Problem Based Learning. The method involves the university, the company and the student and a range a methods. 50% of the time must be on project and the rest ist on courses. The workplace is receiving new knowledge through the learner and the purpose is to obtain competences. The benefits are new knowledge, new opening to universities, new networks, new possibilities.
