Evidence based distance learning? This is a featured page

Ásrún Matthiasdóttir (Reykjavík University, Iceland)

Abstract

In this presentation I will give a short overview over the development of distance education in Iceland and then look to the future. The number of distance students has grown enormously in Iceland over the last decade. I will discuss distance educational programs and give examples of good practice. I will discuss how we can shift the focus from technology to learners. Are we always looking for better tools and don’t recognize the possibilities at hand? To activate the learners and motivate them to take active part in their lifelong learning is a challenge for educators. Are we still fighting with negative attitudes towards technological enhanced education? But what is ahead? Can we guess how technology will develop and what methods we should use to ensure good quality and best practice in education with technology on our side?
