Some Info. on Roddy Hi folks, my name is Roddy Murray and I am a lecturer on the BSC Sustainable Rural Development degree programme, based in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis. To kick things off I shall tell you one or two things about myself. Firstly, I moved back to the Islands from sunny Kinlochleven, Argyll nearly two years ago and have two daughters aged 4 and 1 year old, who have undoubtedley got their Daddy wrappped very tightly around their wee fingers. Ah well, I only see them at weekends so thats my excuse!! My family is from Ness, Isle of Lewis.. I am a graduate in Rural Development, having studied at Lews Castle College, UHI and continued my studies at post-graduate level at Aberdeen University. Since completing my studies, I have worked with a local development company in Kinlochleven for a fixed term 3 year contract and also as an an climbing instructor, on both rock and ice /administration manager with the indoor climbing centre in the village. Outside of work, I am a Retained Firefighter based in Stornoway now, having transferred in from Kinlochleven, with some six years service so far. Apart from all of this, my over riding passion is mountaineering and has been for more than 25, yes 25, years now. Despite having broken my ankle and caught chickenpox in May, I managed to get out to the Alps for three and a half weeks this summer and made it to the Bavarian Alps, Italian Dolomites and finished up with a great last two weeks in Zermatt Switzerland. Plans are already underway for more of the same next summer. Well, thats probably about as much as I am going to say about myself at this stage. If you want to know more it'll cost you but you can always ask! I am looking forward to working with you and hope that together we can all achieve what we are aiming for.
